Ronald your club sounds like a good deal.

Devil07 so you are an Arizona Sun Devil! Where are you now? Reason I'm asking is there are 2 150s on Craigs list now in the Phoenix area.

Now the deal you are interested in...$2,000 up front and free rental only paying for gas and oil "sounds like" a great deal.

That depends...on your luck...if you have luck like me you would pay your $2,000 up front, fly a few hours and then the guy who owns the 150 would go bankrupt and you just lost $2,000. The risk of loss appears high to me. In addition to the $2,000 investment cost, there is also the cost of the money being tied up and you are unable to use it for something else. Seems like a deal if your luck is good but if like me you could be in for a big loss. Seems to me either rent with little commitment or buy a 150 that is yours that you don't have to worry about another guy messing it up and your ability to fly as well.

If you are in the Phoenix area, Wings270 at Chandler Airport rents a Cessna 150G wet for $95/hr $90 block. Whats nice about renting at only $90/hr is that there is little commitment other than treating their aircraft well. And if there is a problem...especially a big expensive problem....you can say oh well that's too bad and walk away. There are many 172s here to rent. I also have seen advertisements for 150 rentals across the country that are even a better deal than this.

I only bring this idea about the $2000 up as when I first moved to Phoenix, I had just retired from the USAF and had saved a good amount of money. Our family moved into a townhouse and I was considering paying cash in advance for 6 months rent with a reduction in the amount paid each month...luckily for me one of my business savvy family members told me it was high risk as if I gave them my money what if they went bankrupt....I would be out the money and the townhouse. Also personal experience that did happen...I worked for a small Piper dealer many years ago...I could see the hand writing on the wall but his customers never saw it coming and he suddenly went bankrupt.
