I was just thinking that a Just Aircraft [justaircraft.com] might be what you are looking for. I saw some of these fly at the Triple Tree Fly-in last year, and was pretty impressed with them.
They sell them as either a kit or a factory built plane. The baggage area appears to be about the same size as the C-152, if I remember correctly. Available as a taildragger or with a nose wheel, what ever your preference.
