My helicopter instructor told me the same thing. I wore cowboy boots the whole time, including my checkride. I've worn pretty much nothing but boots while learning to fly this thing. Once you learn to walk in boots, nothing else compares. Besides, they come in mighty handy when it's time to kick the crap outta something.
