I don?t have a dog in this fight and so I can see both sides pretty well.
I don?t think that anyone would ever argue that we have good thread discipline. In many cases, this one for example, would have a subject flow chart that looks like a red oak tree in winter. Someone starts off on a subject, a few folks comment on it then someone takes off on a little tangent and before you know it the subject has been changed a couple or three more times. A thread is just the wrong term. Rug maybe? It makes following and keeping up on a subject a real chore.
On the other hand I participate in the CPA 182 forum. Man do those guys have great thread discipline. They start on a subject and stick with it. If another subject comes up they start a new thread. The people on the forum are cordial, knowledgeable, helpful and nice as can be. However, that forum is very formal and cold. Not the people but the forum!
There is something to be said for both conducts. Learn a lot on both forums but I have a lot more fun here. What we are doing seems to work.
In most cases I find the folks on this forum to be caring, polite and courteous so perhaps out of courteously when we feel the need to veer off into a new subject we could start a new thread; or we can just keep doing what we are doing. For the folks that are bugged by the poor discipline just think of the offenders as an unruly sibling. We are after all brothers and sisters in aviation.
Either way lest not let this forum to loose its? feel of family.
BTW I am going to post this on ?Everything Else?, where I should have posted it in the first place <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
