Question about Oil temp...
On my commute to Iowa yesterday the Oil Pressure remained rock steady right in the green range... The Oil temp however failed to rise even a little bit.
During my 3 hr BFR (haven't flown a stiff wing in forever) acceptance flight of N61112 I noticed no rise in oil temp. Outside air temps were between 10 and 30 degrees. Should I be concerned?
Even on a day with OAT at 10 to 30F, the oil temp should rise to the green range after about 20 minutes of cruise. If the oil temp needle didn't move at all, the gauge could be bad, or the temp sender is bad, or there's a broken connection between the sender and the gauge. A 150 owner can tell you exactly where the temp sender is. Remove it from the engine and put it in a pot of boiling water. If the needle doesn't move into the green range, there's a problem.
