I called some of the folks that were listed as previous ownwers on the FAA CD. One chap called me back (retired maintenace engineer for Pan Am & others) to tell me he loved the airplane when he had it in the mid 70's...and he was curious to see what shape it was in.
He told me that the auction was as a result of a previous owner (ex. WWII and Korea pilot) passing away.
Just goes to show, we're not "owners" of these sturdy little aircraft as much as we are "stewards" of them.
