After you and I talked out there my avionics shop wanted to convince me that I didn't need it any more because we were installing a WASS GPS. So back and forth the conversation went and I finally just said " we are keeping it because I like it " and still fly a DME arc way more accurately than I can with the GPS. I'm getting my IFR rating flying done in my plan with my instructor and safety pilot and they are both of our same opinion.
My plane has VOR/LOC/GS + DME. We used to call that "slant A" or "/A". Not sure if they still use that terminology.
With my setup, my plane is legal to shoot ILS, LOC, VOR/DME, etc., etc. approaches.
It does not have IFR GPS. Maybe the next owner will want to go that route...
