The "five years" apparently doesn't apply if the airplane was exported. Hollister's 185 was sold to a Canadian in 2009. I was able to reserve the number, N7559Q in May of this year.
It will go on my Wag-a-Bond.

The number would have been surrendered in that circumstance, Reg. Just like we surrendered N999ED and Ed was able to immediately pick it up.
