I'd like to make a suggestion. It might be a good idea to create another section within this forum to cover these very in-depth and complicated regulation related questions and ideas. I don't think this discussion should be held in the buyers & sellers area and under the title "Sale problems". Just a thought.
Though we would all like a "magic" answer to a regulatory type question (ie: yes or no), there are times when there is no magic answer and all you can do is discuss it with your local FAA or TC "expert" and go off of what he tells you. The one thing that I have learned, though, is the answer you get from an "expert" is
still only an interpretation of the rules. In the end, it is up to the person doing the asking if he/she is going to follow the advice that is given.
In the example that I mentioned, with the position lights being U/S, if the person certifying the annual feels it's necessary to have this field approved for the aircraft to legally fly, go for it. I, myself, have another opinion on the matter. Who's interpretation is correct?
We may never know!
