Welcome James! I just bought my first airplane last month. It's a great feeling to be able to fly whenever you want. This club has been great and everyone is extremely friendly. I have already learned so much.

I have a similar but slightly different story. I solo'd when I was 16 and flew about 20 hours during that time. Two decades later I got another 20 hours but still hadn't finished. Fast forward another decade to October 2015. I started flying in earnest and put in all the time needed and finished up my PPL October 2016. Two months later I bought a plane.

(disclaimer: I flew helicopters a lot during those decades, just not any airplanes)

I wasn't going to say anything, but........

Welcome aboard, James......you've landed at a very good place. You'll find a tremendous amount of passion here for our fleet of 150's and 152's, among other planes as well.

Hope you can make our fly-in this summer in Clinton, IA.

There you'll find the largest collection of the most loved 150/152's than anywhere else in the world.

Hey, James! Welcome to a GREAT club!!! I came back to flying after a 38-year break. Got my PPL and a 150 through the help of the folks here. Lots of knowledge and help here--and lots of entertainment!

And Clinton is a wonderful place to be. 150/152 Paradise!

Thanks Victor, Brian, Stacey and Gene!

Victor/Stacey, yea there are a lot of them out there, most of the ones for sale right now seem to be up in the snowy area of the country. I've got an excel spreadsheet and I'm comparing some 150s that are within driving distance of me and also figuring out how much I can afford and still be able to fly on a weekly basis.

Brian, you're in that "snowy area" of the country. I'm sure you'll be out there every weekend when it starts to warm up! smile

Gene, make it a double! But make sure its 8 hours between the bottle and the throttle.

Thank you all for the hospitality! I've wanted to respond to each person, but I'm starting to lose track of who I've responded to, so just want to thank you all. Thats a good thing!

Mark, I had the pleasure of seeing Alex's Bluejay this weekend and it is as nice as he says it is. Its at top of my list, and Alex is awesome!

I enjoy hearing all the stories of people coming back to aviation after extended absences.

Well, I better get back to work, so that I can have the money to afford a plane! smile

My "aircraft needs" are as follows: 1) Low operating costs; 2) mortgage payment within my budget; 3) no deterred maintenance issues; 3) I'd like an airplane that doesn't have pending routine maintenance expenses that will have to come out of pocket; 4) basic IFR equipment (preferably IFR cert. current). Basically, I'm looking for something that I can start flying the pants off of from day one and not have to put any additional money into it for some time.

I think I've narrowed it down to a couple of great candidates and hope to have a new plane by next week. (crossing fingers)

63U has a very basic VFR panel. I wish it was IFR, but everything is a compromise. 63U came with a low time engine and a fairly decent paint job and interior. I looked at several IFR planes that either had high time engines or rough paint jobs/interior. So pick you poison.

I would like to upgrade my panel when I go for ADS-B out. How much depends on the money.

Sounds like you've got a good plan.

Good wife, good friends & a Cessna 150. Life is good.
