OK, I thought I would start a new string. The bidding on both a 1976 150M and a Beech 77 Skipper has ended. The 150M started at $19,000 (with reserve), got 31 bids and sold for $29,500. The Skipper started at $33,900, no reserve, and got no bids at all.

The 150M has 2276TT, 396SMOH, has several mods including gap seals and vortex generators. Avionics is an MX300, Garmin GPS 90, II Morrow Loran 604, ARC300 Xponder. The Skipper is 1850TT and 350SFRM, has no mods, avionics is KLN89B, Dual KX155NavComms, KN64DME, KI209 Glideslope Head, KI208 Navhead, KMA 24 Panel, KT76A Xponder, PM1000 Intercom with digital recorder. Both in excellent condition with great paint and recent interiors.

Why did the Skipper fail to get bids while the 150M had 31 bids and sold?

Kinda tells you which plane is more popular, doesn't it? BTW, did you put in a bid for the Cessna? It fits your low-TTAF requirement and price range.

One of the mysteries of Ebay is why some things sell and others won't.

One thing I've noticed is that something with a starting bid that is too close to a fair price for the item will not get any bids, while a like item with a starting bid that is low will attract bids and eventually sell for much more than the other item, with no bids.

I've bought a number of items be simply knowing what something was truely worth and bidding the starting bid or a little more. If something starts out really cheap, like the 99 cent beginning bids, I many times won't even bother with it, it will quickly go way above what its worth.

Ok Charles and Steven,
There's a 1976 150M listed in TAP, 2106TT, 226SMOH, annual 10/04, NDH, 2 NavComx, King ADF, transponder, 3 lite marker beacon, intercom, very clean...$29,500.00

Looks kinda like the same plane and they're asking the same price. Probably not, though. Listed in Virginia.

You are right, Charles. I learned this when trying to sell an ultralight that I aquired. Initially, I started at what i thought was a fair price and had a reserve on it. It went the full term without one bid. Then I relisted it. This time at a much lower price and no reserve. At the conclusion, it sold for $2,000 + over the previous asking price. It taught me that one needs to play the game!

As far as the Beechcraft VS Cessna. I hear of people shying away just because it's a Beechcraft. The reason being that this name is synonymous with higher parts and maintenance costs. Beechcraft means rich, doesn't it?

Charles,
I have sold a couple of pretty expensive cars after being listed on eBay. Neither car finished the auction; I got offers above my reserve and pulled them for direct sale. I think that eBay is one of the most effective and cost effective advertising media available at less than $50 for a listing. (I got calls from all over the USA and some foreign countries.) That may be what the guy is doing with his airlpane, just advertising.
