Joined: Dec 2004 Posts: 10,735 Likes: 108 | I've put in a fuel flow gauge. I absolutely love it. Next will be 4 cylinder CHT. More useful than EGT - you can lean by ear as well as you can with an EGT, and gives you engine health information.

It depends on the condition of the bird.
If the owner is asking top dollar for a run out engine and a corrosion riddled airframe, then run away from it! If it has a mid or low time engine, sound skin and spars, then it may be worth a more detailed look.
Strike up a good relationship with a reputable mechanic. Have him do the pre-buy.
