§45.29 Size of marks.
(h) After March 7, 1988, each operator of an aircraft penetrating an ADIZ or DEWIZ must display on that aircraft temporary or permanent nationality and registration marks at least 12 inches high.


They changed the Circle-of-Doom from an ADIZ to a “Special Flight Rules Area” (SFRA) in 2008. There’s no mention of SFRAs in Part 45.

And if you have small numbers on your plane and want to cross an ADIZ, you can keep you small number and attach a temporary 12 inch Number. You know like N714RV
