The hat shelf was part of the D/E models. Starting with the F model in 1966, Cessna moved the bulkhead back one bay, put another floor piece down in the open space, and removed the hat-shelf. That made for the big, wide-open baggage compartment of all later 150s and 152s.

True that. The problem with the D and E models is the baggage compartment is smaller than most newer models. I think someone in Alaska extended the baggage compartment aft on their "E" model. I don't remember who it was but it seemed like a lot of work including drilling holes and riveting in a larger section of floor. More work than a lazy old bastid like me wants to do.

With a mile of highway, you can go one mile. With a mile of runway, you can go just about anywhere.
