I once tried to persuade my AP that replacing that plastic bulkhead with an AlClad one would be a minor mod and it would be much more robust in the long term.
You obviously approached this all wrong.
First thing is to fabricate it.
Next step is to polish it.
Then and only then do you approach your A&P/IA about making a change of this nature.
