Have you thought about a Hawk XP? A friend has one and it is a good mix between the 172 and a 182. It has a 190hp (I think) Continental engine. The only downside with the original engines is the 1200 TBO. He recently had a factory reman installed that brought the TBO up to 1800 hours though.

If I go to 180hp, I'll have to seriously consider a Cardinal. As a matter of fact, that would be my first choice. Nothing out there beats the room or the view with no strut. As far as I'm concerned, that was Cessna's nicest 4-place they ever made.
