Given the number of 150's around, you can often find a good one within a reasonable distance from home.
If that hasn't been your luck, when you find a plane, get on the site here and ask if any of the club members are close to the advertised plane. Somebody can often go take a look and get a preliminary look at the logbooks.
If you haven't purchased a plane before, you might be able to talk a club member into going with you for your first up close and personal look at the airplane.
