The premium went from $547 to $572. My flying experience went up, the plane's value went down, yet the premium was increased. I must be paying for all those planes destroyed by Florida hurricanes. | | | | Joined: Jan 2004 Posts: 607 Member/500+posts | Member/500+posts Joined: Jan 2004 Posts: 607 | Just got a renewal quote from AOPA/AIG for my '80 152. In the case of my 172, I thought the agreed upon value was too low and didn't reflect it's actual replacement cost. We upped the hull value (and hence the premium). <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> The AOPA/AIG folks have been very nice to me on the phone. Over the years, they've explained the various options and did "what if" type games for me without a complaint.

Yes, I kept the hull insured value at $25K. The premium increase isn't much, about 4.5%. Probably due to inflation and their loss in Florida. | | | | Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 10,449 Likes: 886 Member/10,000+ posts! | Member/10,000+ posts! Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 10,449 Likes: 886 | I actually saw my rate decrease last year. In 2003 I paid $710 and this past year I paid $680. The hull value stayed the same. I did pass over 1000 hours though. I have AOPA as well. Very easy to deal with. | | | | Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 25,443 Likes: 1005 Member/25,000 posts | Member/25,000 posts Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 25,443 Likes: 1005 | I had a similar rate decrease in 2004, but I think that was because the 5% discount for AOPA members got implemented. | | | | Joined: Sep 2004 Posts: 1,940 Member/1500+posts | Member/1500+posts Joined: Sep 2004 Posts: 1,940 | It's nice to be young! I am paying about $1k per year for $25K hull and liability for a tail wheel 150. I have lots of hours, CP, INST, CFII, about 1500 tail wheel, been flying since 1946, still get a 2nd. class med. but I am 77 and I guess that makes the ins. companies a little nervous. I am with Avemco and have been for years, AOPA was about the same price.

If you haven't obtained a quote from AOPA/AIG recently, you might want to do so. I had renter's insurance with Avemco from '95 to '01. When I bought my plane in '01, Avemco wanted over $900 to insure it. AOPA quoted $600 for the same coverage. Clear choice for me. | | | | Joined: Sep 2004 Posts: 1,940 Member/1500+posts | Member/1500+posts Joined: Sep 2004 Posts: 1,940 | Both prices were quoted at the same time.

The lowest quotes we have so far are $571.00 with your current company and $572.00 with Phoenix Aviation. The next ones are at $702 and $760.00. Getting your instrument rating helped but since you no longer have the aircraft in a hangar it offset the difference. I will wait one more week for the two other quotes and then email you the lowest. Thanks for checking. Donna Meacham Aviation Insurance Resources 1-877-247-7767
It's interesting that they rated me for a hangar last year when it's always been tied down under a cover. The lowest is an AIG quote. 24k hull coverage, $100 deductible, $100k/$1mill liability, $1k medpay. | | | | Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 2 Member | Member Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 2 | I like to thank evryone for all this good insurance information .Good reading Teddy.
