I can just see the ripple of laughter that goes through the oil company's boardrooms every time someone proposes a "Don't buy gas" day, because each and every time it shines the light of truth on the fact that the good folks of this country refuse to unite behind ANY cause, no matter what it is...or how easy it would be to do it. How damn hard could it be for most people to avoid buying gas for 1 day?

I'm afraid our culture has been diluted to the point where presenting a strong united front on ANYTHING is forever a thing of the past. As far as I can tell, from a historical standpoint, no country, empire, etc., has ever reached the equivilant to where we are in our life-cycle and subsequently recovered from it to regain the qualities that propelled it to greatness in the first place.

Hit the root cause and problem squarely on the head.

I understand your skepticism, and I said something similar in an earlier post. But, on further reflection, I find that I'm not in agreement. You want unity? Abduct a child! Mistreat the elderly! Injure or kill someone while driving drunk! Mishandle a national catastrophe while a million people suffer!

There is plenty that we are united on, and perhaps that's part of the problem. We are pulled in so many different directions, fighting on so many fronts, that we each have priorities and goals that may differ drastically from any one of our neighbor's. We are dedicated and steadfast in our individual beliefs, but we do have unity with others who share those beliefs. AOPA, AARP, NEA, NRA, and a hundred other organizations are all representative of our individual unity! The biggest organization of all is the USA! Threaten that organization, and you will find unity!

There are obviously far more important issues than demonstrating against the big oil companies. I'm embarrased that I ever brought it up!

I am sure we will see less hummers now. gas in miami is 3.15 for reguler. avgas at my airport 3.95, but i am sure next time they refill the tank it will go much higher. I am very happy driving my Toyota Matrix.
