I'm afraid our culture has been diluted to the point where presenting a strong united front on ANYTHING is forever a thing of the past.
I understand your skepticism, and I said something similar in an earlier post. But, on further reflection, I find that I'm not in agreement. You want unity? Abduct a child! Mistreat the elderly! Injure or kill someone while driving drunk! Mishandle a national catastrophe while a million people suffer!
There is plenty that we are united on, and perhaps that's part of the problem. We are pulled in so many different directions, fighting on so many fronts, that we each have priorities and goals that may differ drastically from any one of our neighbor's. We are dedicated and steadfast in our individual beliefs, but we do have unity with others who share those beliefs. AOPA, AARP, NEA, NRA, and a hundred other organizations are all representative of our individual unity! The biggest organization of all is the USA! Threaten that organization, and you will find unity!
There are obviously far more important issues than demonstrating against the big oil companies. I'm embarrased that I ever brought it up!
