I have searched all sites and catalogs I know of for a simple ole' metal yoke lock. You know, the kind that slips into the hole in your yoke rod to keep the ailerons and elavator from moving. It is a thin metal rod with a thin metal "Remove Before Flight" plate on it. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Hugh

Something like this item on eBay? [cgi.ebay.com]

This particular auction is for a Cessna 172 control lock. But I see control locks popping up on eBay every so often. Note that the control lock changes somewhat throughout the years. I think the kind with a vertical lock-pin is most common. My bird uses an earlier style, with a horizontal pin and a metal flag that snaps over the exposed throttle shaft (when the throttle is pulled all the way out).

Kirk,

That's exactly what I'm looking for, but not sure if the 172 will fit my 150. I think it will, so I will bid on it. Thanks for the link.

Hugh

Isn't that funny that such a simple item is virtually impossible to find for sale? All the ones that came up in my search were the razzle-dazzle-I-want-big-bucks versions starting at about $150. Make your own. Fun, easy little project that anyone could do. OR...you might call around to the savage yards. They probably have them laying around.

Why not take a coat hanger or a 3/16 or 1/4 (somewhere in there....) inch piece of aluminun tubing and bend it about, and then stick a red plastic flag on the end?

Hey - I've seen it work before.

I could make one out of duct tape and bubble gum, but I want an original yoke control lock for appearance. Thanks anyway

The problem with making a home-made control lock is that the pin portion needs to be hardened. Otherwise, it will wear away from wind action. Or might even bend and kink, making extraction difficult.

If you have the material and tools lying around, then making a gust lock is not that difficult. Otherwise, buying one is a sensible way to go.

What, are you kidding me? THAT's what my wheelpants and headsets are made of and they work great! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
