Can anyone tell me why Essco Aircraft sells '60s POHs for $12 and '70s for $31?!

I'm not being lazy, I think I've looked everywhere else, but does anyone know of a cheaper place to find a '77 POH??

David,

This is a guess, but perhaps the older ones are copies and the later model ones are the actual little book printed for Cessna.

I ordered a replacement book for my '65 model from them, and it was a copy. Not what I thought I was getting, but it'll work. Make sure before you order.

I am not sure of the date, but don't POH'S have to be matched to the plane with the serial number after 1978???

Ebay! Wait long enough and one for the correct model year will show up.

That's not a bad theory Gary. I'm happy with a copy, but I might end up with a new POH.

I'd like to wait Hung, but the plane I just purchased doesn't have the POH. Owner doesn't know what happened to it. Don't want to risk the ramp check!

If you get ramp checked and you don't have the POH, they write you a citation (?), ground your plane, require you to show up at the FSDO with the POH. You hurry up and get one in that case. In the mean time, take your time looking for one.

That's OK if you get ramp checked at your home field. If you're away from home, it's an inconvenience.

Huh, thought it had to be on board? I guess I'm mistaken; I've never looked that one up. Thanks Hung!

This issue seems to come up regular. Type Certificate Data Sheet 3A19 [airweb.faa.gov] , which is the certification authority for the 150-152 series contains the following note under "Data pertinent to all models" which begins on page 12. The actual note is on page 13 under "Equipment".

[color:"red"] Please note an error in the TCDS in that page 13 is titled "X - Model A152 (cont'd)" but this page is NOT for the A152, as it is a continuation of the "data pertinent to all models" from the page before. The A152 information ended on page 12 with the end of the serial number list.

The note reads as follows............

The basic required equipment as prescribed in the applicable airworthiness regulations (see
Certification Basis) must be installed in the aircraft for certification. This equipment must
include a current Airplane Flight Manual effective S/N 15282032 and on, S/N 681, and S/N
A1520809 and on

152's prior to the serials above and ALL 150 aircraft are certificated with the placards and markings as specified in the TCDS as being the sole requirement for pilot information. The original CAR 3 under which the 150 is certificated did not require an Approved Airplane Flight Manual and thus one is not needed.

This requirement is consistent with

FAR Part 21.5 [ecfr.gpoaccess.gov] which requires Approved Airplane Flight Manuals...... [color:"blue"] (a) With each airplane or rotorcraft that was not type certificated with an Airplane or Rotorcraft Flight Manual and that has had no flight time prior to March 1, 1979, the holder of a Type Certificate (including a Supplemental Type Certificate) or the licensee of a Type Certificate shall make available to the owner at the time of delivery of the aircraft a current approved Airplane or Rotorcraft Flight Manual.

Thus, if a 152 that had been built and serialized but not yet test flown, existed on March 1, 1979, and all 152's after that, are requred to have an "Airplane Flight Manual"

The term Airplane Flight Manual is a specific term and you will find that title on the manual that is required to be in those certain 152 aircraft. The POH [color:"orange"] IS NOT an AFM! However, you will usually find a POH in the same binder with an AFM.

What all of this says is that you do not need any type of manual in your aircraft if it is a 150 or a 1978 152.... So go fly.

Charles
