I'd like to make a comment on the use of the round gear
legs on the texas taildragger conversion. I converted my
C-152 into a texas taildragger 24 years ago using the
round gear. The width between tires is 100 inches, & if
the toe-in is correct @ 0 degrees you'll have no problems.
You will have problems if you have 10 degrees or 15 degrees
of toe-in. You'll hear lots of horror stories about this or
that conversion but pay attention to all the little thing
& all will be O.K!! Make sure that your tailwheel is set-up
properly & that it doesn't shimmy or shake.

I've never felt that this conversion was challenging or
difficult in any way. If you let your feet fall asleep
then LOOK OUT!!

That's my 2 cents worth.

Hey Gary, thanks for the input and rethinking. Be careful though -- plane for $39K and $17K for the Sparrowhawk makes it $56K. Are you still as enthusiastic?

Oh, and this question really does come from a friend of mine. Wilbur's all I can handle at the moment!!!

Best,
Catherine

While I might be able to agree with you on the handling vs the toe in/toe out situation, since the tubular gear has the axles made onto it, how do you adjust it? I do not know of any way to shim or adjust the gear legs.

Hi it's me again. If your real interested look up my
previous post on the subject.Post # 22734 Dated 08/25/05
at 08:34 A.M.. It can be done by elongating the holes in
the gear casting & rotating the gear, then filling the void
with a machined brass insert to close up the gap. It can
be done & works great.
