I have a line on a bird that is in Lancaster, CA. (I'm not saying what *kind* of bird). Anyone live nearby or within range of El Monte airport?

Shoot me a PM if you would be willing to take a peek at it for me! Thanks.

Nope, if I do a low winger, it'd be a Sundowner, just because. Actually, this is 172.

Greg,

I am not sure if it is still available, but there was a guy here locally with a 180hp converted 175 for sale. New paint, and newer avionics for $45K I think.

I can give you a number if you like.

Thanks Jeff, those 175's are sweet, and faster than the 172's. I'll keep the info in mind while in exploration mode. I've been zeroing in on the 71-75 model years for several reasons including the engine, the wing leading edge and the change from the Connie 6 go Lyc 4.

I've even had an in depth discussion with Shelby at TNWings to see if he could steer me straight. Man is he one heck of a nice guy!

Shelby and I stay in touch a couple of times a week. I get to see his new "projects" that he experiments with and hope to participate in a couple of those in the next year or two.

He is a great source.

I thought he had a 172 that he had refurbed there for sale. Is that gone? (or too rich?)

Greg, El Monte & Lancaster are a considerable distance apart! I fly into El Monte all the time. I could take some pictures and take a mechanic friend/CFI with me & check it out if you wish (it would have to wait until after the 20th though). Find out where that bird is and let me know.

Thanks Terry, I think after some additional soul searching and the hint from the owner that the exterior and interior are so poor I would need to immediately overhaul them, I am going to take a pass on this one after all.

I thank you for your offer!!
