I have an intermittent Instrument Light rheostat (P/N S1880-3). When I was much younger we would clean "pots" with carbontetrachloride (if memory serves), but that stuff was removed from use. This rheostat is most likely original and probably should be replaced.
I priced a replacement for $116 (ouch).

Any recommendations would be appreciated.
Thanks

You can still buy similar products at a variety of stores, marketed as "TV Tuner Cleaner", "Electronics Cleaner", "Contact Cleaner", and sometimes as "Moisture Displacer" (which can be a different product that you don't want to use).

I used to buy mine at Radio Shack, but I'm not sure the "Electronics Cleaner" they sell now is the same formula I liked! I've also found it at auto parts stores, and at Amazon.com.
