I leave it on my desk as a reminder of what a rip-off it is. $45 for six D-size Panasonic Alkaline batteries welded together.
They sure are proud of those batteries!

"Add a cigarette lighter outlet, and you have a backup power source for anything that will plug into it! I use one on my troubleshooting bench as a clean DC power source."

Great idea, thanks Carl.

I took Rock's advice and started trying harder to flush out more local planes this week rather than looking so far and wide. My efforts are starting to pay off as I found 2 more 150's this week within 50 miles of home.
One boasts to have a good avionics package I'll describe below.
King KLX13 GPS NAV COM with Map
King KMA TSO24 Audio Panel w/3 Light Marker Beacon
King ADF
King KX78 Transponder with Altitude Encoding
Collins NAV/COM with Glideslope
Sigtronics SPA400TSO Intercom
PTT on both yokes

Sounds like a good combination to me, but clearly my knowledge is limited. That's why I posting you good folks.
Any comments?

That does look like a GREAT panel, what is the low down on the plane that goes with it?

The King unit is probably the 135 which is a GPS/Comm with Map (I believe the 35 is just the GPS, no comm, but don't know what the 13 is other than a typo). This is a strictly VFR unit, but great for situational awareness. With the Collins radio and glideslope plus marker beacon, I would guess you have good fundamentals for IFR training. But also...what's the rest of the bird look like.

5962 TT 572 SMOH, average P&I (not bad, but not mint condition either). It's owned by a guy who owns a prop shop. You think a I might get him to throw in a lifetime of prop overhauls to go with it.
Just adding this plane to my local alternatives. What do you think the avionics package adds to the basic value. Would you say this package is above average, and if so, by how much, +1K, +1.5K over average? I'm hoping to get a rough estimate to be able to give it due credit when I'm trying to put it into perspective relative to the overall value of the plane.

Yea, his listing on the spec sheet as a "KING KLX 13 GPS NAV COM with Map" was a typo error. I called him and he said it was a 135 as you suspected. He wasn't sure but thought it might be a 135A.

I really like the NAAA Evaluator software that an $18 per year subscription to on-line trade-a-plane get's you. It allows you to enter each piece of avionics as well as the normal stuff for a very accurate (conservative) value. Matter of fact...I am a bank credit administrator, and our bank subscribes and uses it in our aircraft financing as our appraisal tool. You may have to go a bit higher, but it's a great bargaining tool. For that price, you get to value something like 3 planes per day....you might consider it.

Google the N number (as well as checking this site). If it has a damage history, this'll show it very quickly. I've rejected 4 planes in the past two days because of damage. Seller says 'NDH' but the NTSB database shows otherwise.
