Your right, but, no, that's not it.

Well, that too.
OK, let me restate the request. Pick this picture of the engine apart.
Think less global and more micro.

Why the breather hose goes up and over.

Keep looking.

What's up with that safety wire? Did Continental start using left-hand threads on the right side of the engine? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I haven't looked at a pre-1970 in f o r e v e r, so I may not be too good at this:

No rubber mounts on the firewall for cowling attachment?
Some type of air/oil seperator?
Breather tube over the top
Missing baffle seal where the breather line passes
Welded extension on the pilots-side tailpipe
Baffle seals on the wrong side of the baffle
Incorrect safety wire
Can't tell about the hose, is it approved?

I gonna take a stab at this. Are those bolts holding the cylendars one approved? They certainly don't match the rest of the engine (colorwise that is).

Could it be that the current owner rebuilt the engine himself? and didn't use approved parts?

Besides, do we paint the firewall?

I thought the original owner said he was a "Perfectionist"???? in his comments on eabay? To me a perfectionist "goes by the book" only, his hangar has painted floors with no clutter, (if you drop a sandwhich, you could pick it up and eat it right off the floor--even though a perfectionist would not let you eat around the plane) the lighting is very good in the hangar, no dirt or dust around, etc.
