Help - I am looking at a potential buy in Athens GA. I was wondering if someone who lives near there might be able to take a look at this 150, and render an opinion on condition, paint, etc? Thanks for your help!

Give us some details, Scott! What attracts you to this bird? Got Pics? Spec sheet? Website?

I'm in northeast Florida. Where are you located, and welcome to the club!

Thanks for the welcome! Newbie here - haven't flown for a while, don't want to rent if I get back into it! I'm in Lexington KY. The plane is on aso.com its a 1977 w/6771TT & 380SMOH, good paint, $19,500.00 price, basic VFR panel (one VOR). You can check it on that website. Located in Athens GA - somewhat close to Atlanta. Any comments here would be appreciated! Thanks, Scott

This one?

ASO link to 1977 150, N714CQ [aso.com]

A document search on the clubs link (in the "Members Hangar" section on the main page) shows no damage history reported, but this plane is somehow familiar to me. I think another member had looked at it recently, possibly at a higher price (Bengie?). Maybe they will report in!

On the plus side, it is my favorite year of 150, with notched flap controls and indicator just like the 152, only still with the 150's 40? of flaps. Not a bad interior, at all. The broken plastic cover under the cowl is easily replaced, and I question why they haven't already done so. The paint looks good (always hard to tell in a picture). 380 hours since overhaul is good. The engine should be well broken in and apparently didn't suffer infant mortality. The airframe time is a little higher than I'd like (it's obviously been a trainer) but only affects asking price and resale value later on. She'll hold her value if maintained properly. Remember that this is the asking price, and the seller may actually have a lower minimum price in mind in order to complete a sale. With the sketchy information available, I'd say she's worth the asking price, as many similarly equipped 150's have sold for more.

I'll back out and let some of the others chime in with do's and don't's! There's a lot of experience here with the membership, and I congratulate you on finding the club and taking advantage of it. By the way, in aviation we're all newbies. It's just that some of us have been newbies longer than others!

Lexington, huh? My Wife and I are from Somerset (1960's), about 80 miles south of Lexington on US27. She still has family there and in Lexington.

Thanks for the input Carl - and yes that is the right plane on your link. You're right, I am discovering what a great resource the club is, and look forward to being more involved in it. Currently, I'm checking with the mechanic who services this plane, to see what type of overhaul was last done. Any other input anybody has to offer - let me know. Scott

I'm on the far south side of Atlanta, Athens is an 100 mile drive for me. Seems to me that we have a member in Winder or at Gwinett Co. so possibly one of them will see this and at least could take a look.

That price, vs year and times and such makes me wonder what is wrong, but it may not be too far off base either, the market is changing rapidly right now.

Scott,

I've got a friend thats based at Athens airport(Robert Armstrong)He's the 03 national aerobatic champion. He works with the airlines , so he might not be available.
But if he is, he would be an execellent person to take a look for you.
Let me know if it gets that serious, and I'll try and get hold of him for you.
If it happens that he can't do it, Then I'm always looking for an excuse to go somewhere!
When you get to the "deal brecking" point, let me know, And I'll help any way I can.

I'm not all that far away up in Tennessee. I can go help, as well. I've got an eye for some problems 150s have.

Oh yes.

I've seen quite a few.

Mhm yep.

That's why my (and my dad's) wallet is thin.

Hmmmmmm, lessee, if I fly over and look at it, swap lower cowlings while the owner's not looking and finally acquire the dual landing light in the nosebowl I've been looking for....ya think he'll notice?

Shoot, go ahead and buy it. I'll swap noses with ya as soon as you get it, you know, just before you get used to it.

I'd love to go Scott, but I'm about 180 miles away with a disassembled nosegear at the moment.
