Hello -

I am interested in finding an 0-200A for my current 1966 C150. Id like to find one that can be rebuilt/overhauled while keeping the one i have still in the plane. Is this possible?

I don't see these ever come up on the other more common websites. I see ads and listings but many times it turns out only to be an "opportunity to receive quote"

What do most people do? Rebuild their own and just accept the downtime?

You could try the salvage yards like Wentworth for an engine.

However, O-200's are getting very hard to find and command a steep price. Ordering an engine from Continental used to be a viable option, but they are not currently accepting orders (as far as I know) because of the lack of crankshaft availability.

A field overhaul or an overhaul at an engine rebuilding shop is also a possibility. But, (and it's a BIG but) your crankshaft better be reusable or you're in for a LONG wait. And, as you noted, your plane will be down for 16 to 24 weeks while you wait for your engine to come back from the rebuilder. It could be a little less if your local mechanic does a field overhaul.

I won't bore you with the different types of overhauls since I'm not really up to speed on "Factory overhaul", "Factory reman", etc.

Good Luck! I hope that you can find an engine that will be rebuildable so you can minimize your downtime.

I will have a 0-320 firewall forward engine package coming up for sale shortly currently mounted on a 1970 Cessna 150L. It has 300 hours on the motor built-in 2015. Had a minor prop strike and will be doing a crank run out this week. I would recommend a IRAN inspection before installing. You will need a new stc for it comes with engine cowling everything except a prop.

I hope this gets some traction. This would be a fun project to follow not to mention the joy a big nose would inject into your life!! whistle
