Looking for a source for a spinner for my 150/180. The new owner just called me and said that the spinner had cracked and that a chunk about 4 inches by 4 inches
had departed. I replaced the spinner about 6 or 7 years ago and found a new one (the one now broken). Seems like the place I found it was the
Avcon conversion people but I can note remember exactly.
Anyone know if Avcon is still in business or an address or someplace where we might find a spinner.
The new owner of my airplane is really a good and nice guy and I sure would like to help him find a spinner.

Aircraft Spruce list this part number as the "150 Avcon Conversion" - Spruce Part Number - 05-15388 Special Order.

And this as the 150 spinner - Spruce Part Number - 05-01257 Manufacturer Part - TCB0450027-12

The pictures look identical - though that could just be Spruce using a placeholder picture.

Both $881

If you back out the Manufacturer Part number - you end up on Textron's website:

https://ww2.txtav.com/Parts/PartSearch/PartsDetail/0450027-12

--

A little more digging on the Textron Part number gets you this $505 PMA spinner:

https://www.univair.com/cessna/cessna-150-152/view-all/u0450027-12-cessna-spinner-dome/

--

Most other searches on the Textron part number and you just end up at parts brokers who will get you a quote.

That picture may be a placeholder. This is what the real AVCON conversion spinner looks like, and it's Dale's original spinner. Note the size. It is much larger than the OEM spinner, hence the nickname "Big nose."

This is the standard "Pointy" spinner for the Continental 0-200 powered Cessna 150 thru the 150K. It will not work with a Sensenich prop or Lycoming engine.

This is a picture from the drawing for the engine conversion by J&S Engineering dated November 7, 1979. The part number for the spinner is either an SP(I or One)3BB or BN-3.

The BN-3 spinners were available from Aircraft Spruce up until a few years ago. Not sure what happened but they were manufactured by a company called ACS. I think this is the ACS company they used to work with: https://acsproducts.co/our-products/machined-products/. Unfortunately I don't see spinners on the list. It might be worth reaching out to them and see if they still make the BN-3.

As for Aircraft Spruce. There is where I ordered mine from last time I needed a spinner. It had to be cut by Griggs and they did a nice job of it. I should have ordered two of them at the time.

Aircraft Spruce in Europe appears to have a BN-3 on their website. Click here. [aircraftspruce.eu]. Can you order from Aircraft Spruce Europe and have it sent to the United States? Not sure about that.

The first spinner, the SP13BB (or SPI3BB) was sourced from a company called Rattray Aircraft [jimrattray1.com]. It appears this company is no longer producing anything. I suppose someone could buy the company and use the molds to make their own.

Lastly, I remember talking about this issue with Bengie Phillips (I miss him) when he was trying to upgrade his Cessna 150. He seemed to think that a Catto [cattoprops.com] spinner might fit the hub and propeller. Not sure which size to order and if it is pre-cut.

Whatever you find out, please let us know what works. I'm not looking forward to pulling the spinner to change out the engine. That might be the worst part of the upcoming engine upgrade.

I believe ACS got out of doing those spinners. I got one with my Sensenich Prop and two cracked from clearly poor machining / stress risers and were replaced by Sensenich (but the parts were drop shipped by ACS who made them). The third I just never put on and went with the skull cap. Sold the spare on a long time ago - with a health warning.

If you go to Sensenich's web site and look for the spinner to go with the propeller Sensenich state:

Graeme, Mark and Ed. Thanks for your help on this spinner problem. I have forwarded the info to Raymond Olsen who is the new owner of my bird. I will let you know when and if something comes of it and etc.
Thanks for your efforts

Thank you all for the quick help and potential sources for replacement. Right now Dales AP is recommending a C-172 replacement and my AP is still researching the potential replacements. I'm personally looking into using the old spinner as a "mold" for a carbon fiber replacement or simply a carbon fiber "field repair". Interesting owning and maintaining such an old and unique airplane. It is however a ton of fun! Will advise the group of progress as it comes.
