Hi all. I am looking for any leads on a cylinder for an 0-200-A. My flight back to KAST got cut short in KCLS when my engine started having serious engine issues. The mechanic says I need to replace the #3 cylinder. Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you.

Why? What went wrong with the cylinder?

I am not an A&P, so I might not be accurately describing the problem. But what I think I was told is that I have a burned intake valve, bad valve seat and valve guides that are too far gone for reaming.

You might want to consider sending it to Corona Aircraft Engines for overhaul. I just picked up a set of four cylinders from them, overhauled to new limits. With parts and labor, the total bill was a bit over $2500 for four cylinders. This included replacing all the exhaust valves (which they did cheaply with used, overhauled valves from their stock) and porting the valves for better flow.

Even if you buy a serviceable cylinder in the meanwhile, having an overhauled spare sitting on the shelf ready to go can save a lot of down time in the future.

Thank you for the responses Scott and Kendel. I will contact Corona to see what they have available on Monday. Another mechanic friend of mine suggested Avian in Bellingham and I was able to talk to Mike in the cylinder shop. He said he was overhauling 5 cylinders this next week and three were still available (as of noon today). With my high time engine (2000 hrs since overhaul) I was wondering if it might be prudent to keep a spare for the next 'event'. I think you answered that question.

Dan, did you get your cylinder problem resolved? I'm headed back to Tucson for a couple of days at the end of the month and can see what I have for extra cylinders.

Kendel, I haven’t heard back from Mike at Avian yet. I left him a message saying I would like a second overhauled cylinder as well. He told me he would try to have them done this week. I am hopeful I can get one to the A&P in Chehalis by Friday. This next Monday my wife and I are driving to northern Idaho for a week to visit her mother so I am kind of expecting the repair to be completed the week of August 7th.
If it turns out that I can’t get the cylinders from Avion, I would certainly appreciate your help.
