Hey everyone! Would any of you be interested in getting your Tailwheel Endorsement during the fly in? I know some of you come early and are there all week. We have a Citabria that could be brought over from our other location to have available if there is enough interest. I would estimate 4ish hours in the airplane. We would cover ground handling, 3 point and wheel landings, and slips to landing just to name a few. So if anyone is interested please get a hold of me either on here, by phone 563-244-4770 or email matt.reed@fly-iowa.com. See you all soon!

Actually, that sounds pretty cool!
I'll bet my daughter Samira would. I'll ask her.

Roger that. Some TW time would be great. I have none.

I don’t need no stinkin’ tailwheel endorsement because of this:

§61.3(i)(2) The training and endorsement required by paragraph (i)(1) of this section is not required if the person logged pilot-in-command time in a tailwheel airplane before April 15, 1991.

However, because I have not logged any pilot-in-command time in a tailwheel airplane in more than 50 years, I would need more refresher time in a tailwheel airplane than what I have logged in one.

I have a buddy (Delta Captain, Reno Bronze/Silver/Gold Jet Class winner... name is Mike Steiger) who several years back asked me if I'd like to get a tailwheel endorsement in his 172 conversion. Of course I emphatically said yes!!! I'll get to fly and learn from THE BEST!!!

Well, we went up, and all I can say is that if he wasn't there and as good as he is not only as a pilot but also reacting fast enough to recover from a series of bounces in every direction and height that I initiated, you'd be reading about the demise of the Poobster and an airplane, as well as possibly collateral damage.

eek eek eek eek eek

It was that bad on my part, I'm afraid to say. But, in the spirit of openness and honesty, I confess my egregious lack of airmanship regarding tailwheel airplanes in the landing configuration and process.

eek eek eek eek eek

I'll stick with the training wheel up front for now.

Samira is thrilled with the idea! Sign her up! She is a newly minted private pilot working on her IR. We‘ll be there. I’ll contact you soon.

I sort of regret not finishing up my TW endorsement a few years ago. I did a short aerobatic course with a great CFII (his name is Morris Ray, which kind of matches mine!). He told me all I needed to get the endorsement was wheel landings. Unfortunately, the Mississippi River was threatening to flood the airport so the airplanes were being moved. By the time things got back to normal, the urge had passed and I never wrapped it up. My aerobatic flying came to a halt too. I regret not finishing both!

Your offer is a great one, Reed! Thank you for offering! I hope it works out for some of the folks here!

I had already expressed my interest through email. I still want to pursue this so I say bring over the
Citabria.

I’d be interested in getting a little time in a Citabria. Haven’t flown one since the mid 90s and that when I last flew a tail wheel.
