Hope she sells quick, Dale, and the buyer is either someone in the club, or becomes a new member.

I just read a short list of what FAA calls disqualifying meds. https://www.faa.gov/faq/does-faa-ha...-pilots-can-and-cannot-take-while-flying
Most of them have pretty short half lives in the human body and should be safe after the effect wears off. A few of them don't simply wear off, and would have to be tapered with chronic use. Their list of tranquilizers, opiates and anti-psychotics are not easy to just stop and say you're OK. Their list of tranquilizers: chronic use can lead to withdrawal seizures if you miss a few doses after chronic use; opiates build a tolerance, are addictiive, and make people agitated during withdrawal; antipsychotics, with chronic use, lead can to movement disorders. So I can see why I woudn't want to fly if taking those.
Of course, there is one over-the-counter "medicine" that has potentially worse long-term effects than all the rest: Alcohol dependence can cause withdrawal seizures, agitation, movement disorders, even dementia,
The other medicines on their list I linked should be safe enough after the effects wear off. I'd wait at least a couple of days to be sure. I don't know what the FAA says about that, and I'm NOT giving advice--this is just a comment. It's FREE. It's worth what you paid! frown grin

If I had a ton of money and my retirement well covered, I'd buy his plane and have it tastefully gone through, fixing any squawks without changing its character. Then I'd donate it to the Cessna 150/152 club foundation. It could be flown by a different member to the fly-in every year in Dale's honor. Of course, Dale could fly it himself as long as he would want to. I don't have my retirement well covered and I don't have a ton of money. Darn it!

It's mainly the anti-psychotics and psychotropics that I was referring to. My doctor has advised that since I had previously exhausted all other prescription sleep med options to no avail, the next step would be pshycotropic medications. Knowing those are a disqualifying class of medications, I elected to find safer options for dealing with sleep issues. But others may be in the same boat. Even though they don't have any underlying conditions normally treated by a medication, their PCP may have prescribed them something that has a "beneficial side effect" that helps them, but disqualifies them. Then there are those that do have the underlying condition that is treated by a disqualifying medication, and unfortunately cannot fly. My stepson for example has ADHD. Because of his medication, he would not be able to pass a medical, so unless he in the future is able to wean off the medication, he can't get his PPL.

I like your idea about buying and donating Dale's plane. I wish I had money to help contribute to such a legacy as well.

FYI Yesterday, April 30, 2023. I sold my airplane. A 68 year old pilot who has not owned an airplane for about 5 years. Has owned a 182,learned to fly in C-150.
He lives in Utah and spends time between Logan, Ut in the North and St. George in the South.
He has been here and checked out the airplane and took lots of pics and also got his wife's permission to buy it.. That is kind of a joke and a little story that goes with it but I will elaborate on this stuff in a few days.

I might add that I wish Geoff had bought it and carried out his threat to give it to the club. Just kidding but I was rather touched that he would even think of such a thing.
thanks for remembering me Geoff.
We have decided to come to Clinton this July. Not flying of course. Trudi and I and maybe Larain (she is thinking of going to Henderson, Nev and on to L.A where she has a son living in each of those places-----for a visit)
So hopefully we can see YOU ALL at least one more time. It will be my 17th Clinton.

That's the best news of the year!!

Congrats on selling the plane, Dale. As tough as it is to hang it up, you did it with grace and style.

What else would anyone expect from Dale Larsen?

Look up grace, style and class. Dale is what you'll see.
