Garmin aera 660 for sale, never used in flight, just fiddled with at home. New condition, original box and accessories, and will include a Garmin carry case as well.
I flew (until I sold aMolly) with a Garmin 196 on the yoke. To me, that is about as big a unit as I would want hanging from the yoke, and the 660 looks to be about the same size. Based on Jim’s pictures in the past, I think the 660 will display ADS-B also, which would be great.
Thanks, Stacey. I had an aera 560 previously, in both my Cherokee and Commander. The Commander had it in an Air Gizmo all the way over to the right of the panel, and with the size of the Commander’s cockpit, it was a bit too far away. In the Cherokee it was Air Gizmo’d into the center stack, and that worked nicely. When I installed a 430 in the panel, I moved the 560 to the yoke. Really liked it there, right at my fingertips. I’ve seen them suction mounted in various places too. It’s a really nice size for smaller cockpits.
I have the Aera 660 mounted on my panel. It talks to a remote GDL 50R. I love it. Great information from the unit. Weather, traffic and TFRs. Easy to program. I also have it set up to talk to the G5s.
I think the subscription for navigation data is $150/year. The software update previous to the last software update gave me some fits but with the latest version I've had no problems.
That'll be the best $550 you can spend. I still have mine yoke mounted to handle all the task work in flying - weather, traffic, terrain, checking metars, charts, calculations etc - Ipad's can't keep up. It also will drive the HSI on your AV-30!
If it would connect to a Stratus ESG/3i as an ADS-B In source, I'd jump on it in less than a heartbeat. I understand Garmin's choice to be proprietary. I love their hardware, but I don't have to like their choice...
