I guess there really is a silver lining to every cloud. Since I fly less than two hours at a time, and have plenty of time between flights to charge back up, I don't need a charger port in Molly. I will leave that to the next person lucky enough to own her. smile

You can try an awful lot of cheap plug into cigarette lighter chargers to find a quiet one before spending money on a PMA one.... Just saying.

I use a cigarette lighter adapter and have had good luck and the price was right.

My airplane didn’t come with a cigarette lighter in the panel, but it does have a “roll of toilet paper igniter for use just before ejection from the side window” tool. I’ve never used it for that, but my Amazon USB charger fits right in there and works great, no RF interference that I can hear, and it tells me my battery’s voltage.

For consideration, one of the benefits of the Stratus Power is that it supplies 2.1 amps to BOTH usb ports at the same time. This means you can fully charge two devices at the same time WHILE you use them both, for example, an iPad running Foreflight for moving maps, and an iPhone running ForeFlight for checklists. The Guardian Avionics smartPower Dual USB Port [guardianavionics.com] also does this.

Some (not all) of the other ones with dual USB ports actually split the 2.1 amps between the two, so if you plug in two devices, neither of them gets the full 2.1 amps.

I have a Stratus Power in my plane and absolutely love it. I paid full price for mine a few years ago.

I just bought the Mid Continent True Blue one on sale at Aircraft Spruce. The price was rite. I don't think I would have paid $500 for it. I've had radio interference since I bought the airplane. Maybe this will help. smile

My A&P/AI, who does owner assisted annuals for me and has saved me literally thousands of $$$, is reluctant to install the USB charger I bought. (See above post). He thinks it is a major modification and needs an STC. For those of you who have installed a new USB charging device, what did it take to have someone install and sign it off?
Cheers, Elliot
