Appareo is now having a Buy one get one free event. If 2 of the members go in together, and split the cost, this would be a good time to get a FAA?PMA USB dual port for your airplane.

I have one of these units and I love it. I got mine a couple of years ago when they had the same promotion.

Steven, I sent you a message

That's a good deal. I'm not sure why most people would be interested in buying 2 - almost seems geared at convincing a buddy to come along!

I noticed Garmin's version of the (the GSB) is only $259 retail, so I think there is some pressure to bring this price down. Makes sense... it's a glorified cigarette lighter with adapter.

Hi,
I recommend the Mid-Continent True Blue USB units TSO'd.
They are 2.1 amp units for I pads charging to boot.
Easy to install and have a lifetime warranty.
I installed 2 of these in my panel Pilot and co pilot to run phones, ipads or anything else.
They are polarity specific + and - wires if installed incorrectly they will no longer work.
Called Mid-Continent and told them i had one that didn't work anymore they sent out a new one free of charge and send the core back when i get a chance...

Great service , very nice price and super customer service..

Note: FYI these are stock in the cirrus aircraft so you may see them cheaper on ebay and all units are covered by the warranty...

I couldn't find the TA102 series on their web site. Only the TA202. Maybe that's why they are on sale.

Palumma 24W/4.8A Dual USB Car Charger, 12V to USB Outlet with Cigarette Lighter Voltage Meter LED/LCD Display Battery Low Voltage Warning (Black) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0773BYS6...QNGY9YMYXWTF50RQCCX?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

Works great! Even gave me indications my VR was on the fritz.

Probably less than the shipping for a PMA part.

If you’re going to go the route of the simple cigarette lighter adapter for charging iPads and such, then I suggest only buying the Sporty’s unit:

https://www.sportys.com/flight-gear-dual-usb-quick-charger.html

The reason is this - it’s the only one that was specifically tested to work in airplanes without causing radio interference.

In my experience, cheap chargers tend to produce noise on the radio. Sometimes it’s loud, sometimes it’s just a soft background hiss, sometimes it changes depending upon what device is plugged in and how depleted the batteries may be. Sometimes the noise is not noticed until trying to receive a distant station.

Brand-name chargers, such as from Apple or Samsung, tend to be much better in this regard (and consequently more expensive). The really cheap ones and/or unknown brands, such as those sold in kiosks at gas stations and hardware stores tend to be the worst. With Amazon you have no idea what you’re getting.

The reason why is these chargers are not simple devices with a transformer and may be a couple of diodes. They are miniature switching power supplies with high-frequency circuits. It’s easy to build a power supply that will charge electronics. It’s harder (and more expensive) to build one that will do it without generating noise. It’s much the same problem with LED lights. Cheap ones are noisy, expensive ones tend not to be.

The panel-mount chargers are really nice - well-designed, well-shield, wired up properly, and won’t wiggle loose in a worn socket in turbulence, leaving your device discharging without your knowledge. Expensive, yes, but much more secure and reliable.

Surprisingly the one I linked does not interfere with my avionics.
I agree that you are rolling the dice with these type adaptors. Just wanted to share this one worked on my plane.
