Just received this from a club member -

"Our flying club previously owned a Cessna 150, and we have a spare propeller that has been gathering dust in the back of the hangar (the airplane was sold some years ago). It is a McCauley Kliptip Met-L-Prop (1A100/MCM6950) that has a maintenance release showing that it was repaired and inspected in 1989 and was never reinstalled. A web search shows that these have also been used as a performance enhancer in Aircoupes. Could you give some indication of:

1.) What the value of the propellor is? New props seem to run about $2500 and this is in unused-after-refurbishment condition.

we have is a green slip marked "Repairable Part" (12/1/89) from Flightstar Inc here in Champaign, IL ,as well as a maintenance release from Aircraft Propeller Service in Wheeling, IL dated 12/8/89. The prop is still in the box that it was shipped to Flightstar from APS.

The history of the part seems to be that it was originally removed and put in for service with APS and replaced with a second propeller, that was then on the airplane when it was sold with the one at hand remaining behind. To the best of anyone's knowledge there doesn't seem to be a logbook though people are still checking. Would this be enough information for you to work with?

Thank you for your assistance with this.

Scott"

Anyone out there that can help? Ideas? Suggestions? Let me know. Thanks!!!

I've got a suggestion, but it won't have anything to do with money. Give it to me!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" />

Well, eBay currently has two McCauley props for sale, both are "for display only". One is asking $200 and the other $400. Both are obviously un-airworthy. Assuming the paperwork for this particular prop checks out and it's truly repaired (not simply "repairable"), I would think it's worth more than that. Maybe $1000? At least, that's what I would've paid a month ago....

The safe buyer would want the prop checked again to make sure nothing was tweaked during storage (fell off the shelf, something dropped or spilled, that sort of thing). That could run another $400-$500.

Now you're up to $1500 on a used propeller. Get close to $2K and people will figure 'just buy new' and not have any worries or questions. At least, that's what I did a month ago....

Scott!

The propeller might have been a 1A100/MCM6950 when new but I doubt it is 6950 now especially after it has been used and repaired.
