Anyone have any alternatives for getting the spinner forward bulkhead?

I am working with Harry Fenton A&P. We were trying to find a place to 3D print but the part is too big for most printers. Also, looked into having the piece molded but cost for set up is very high.

Let me know.

Good luck...I just had that same issue during the annual. Cracked backplate and cracked plastic bulkhead. The cost of the plastic bulkhead was higher than the other parts to fix the spinner. Solution for me was a simple skull cap.

I also have a 3D printer and I'd be very, very wary of printing that part considering the stresses it may encounter if anything's even slightly out of balance.

Bill: I like your idea of a skull cap spinner to replace the OEM spinner. My recently acquired C-150F has a good spinner backplate but a defective front bulkhead. Used serviceable front bulkheads are hard to come by because most crack. The metal fwd bulkhead has been replace by a molded plastic one as you noted and yes, they are outrageously expensive. I have not yet bit the bullet and purchased the new plastic part since I’m still in the restoration of this aircraft. Going with a skull cap spinner will solve the problem and not flatten my pocket book.

What authorization did you use to replace your OEM spinner with a skull cap? I’ve heard rumors that it can be done, but don’t see it in the parts manual or the TCDS. Would appreciate any info you might have.

The Skull Cap is also an OEM spinner. It was standard equipment on the Cessna 150 from serial number 1 thru the "K" model.

The Parts Manual for your airplane shows 3 spinners.
  • The top one (Skull Cap) is for serial numbers 17001 and on
  • The middle one is for serial numbers 17001 thru 15059949 (halfway thru the "C" model)
  • The bottom one is for serial numbers 1509950 and on (in this manual "on" is thru the 150J)
