Hi to everyone in this Forum,

I ll make another attempt to look for help in my search: I am looking for either an early (straight tail) Cessna 150 or for a low-time, original 150.
Despite being German I will fly this aircraft only in the U.S. ( our son is married to an American girl) and an own aircraft might sweeten our frequent stays in the U.S.
Until now I rented a 150 in the Sequim, WA area and I find it better, at least in the "long" run, to have your own aircraft; Could anyone help me with possible
assistance if I find one in [i]Barnstormers , Trade-a-plane or even in the club?
All help is welcome; I dont have any geographical preferences, it might even be a challenge if I have to fly it to the NorthWest or share this trip with the former owner acting as safety pilot

Herzlich willkommen, Peter!

I don't have any leads, but planes do get listed here from time to time, so keep watching.

I have bought a 150, a 172 and a 182, and I found all through various forums when they were first listed. If you have time and patience, you can find very nice planes at a good price. The good ones typically don't stay in the market more than a couple of days and often don't ever make it to the trade publications.

Where do you fly in Germany? I am often in Karlsruhe and sometimes fly out of a glider field in Landau. it is very beautiful there.

Hello Henry,

thanks for your nice reply.
I rarely fly in Germany, but belong to Hamm LSC Flying club at EDLH.
It is appx 200 miles from Karlsruhe. Karlsruhe is very near to Ramstein airbase as is Landau, but a beautiful region to soar.

By the way, I just found an early 172 offered in Rodeo, NM ( what a name) in barnstormes, which might be an option......
Have you got a clue how to have someone look at this airplane at such a remote place ?

Peter, looks like the airport has 4 aircraft based on the field, one of them must be the one you're looking for. The airnav site gives the phone number of the airport manager. I'd call Mr.Cleo Chamberlain at the number listed, 575-557-2343. Maybe he knows someone in the area willing to take a look. Of course, it might be that he's the one selling it. Hard to say.

Also, the nearby town of Lordsburg might have someone at their airport who can eyeball the plane for you. Fred Beem, 1000 Airport Rd,
Lordsburg, NM, Phone 575-542-3614.

Most airports are populated with people who love planes, and, therefore would be willing to help out a fellow pilot. I'll bet you'll find someone if you called.

Maybe the plane can be flown to I started to with a 150 that I bought with a partner. It was a great plane, but quite tight for two 1.82m guys that weighed 100kg each. We eventually upgraded to a 172, which was significantly more comfortable. At that time, the price difference wasn't that great, and maintenance/insurance was about the same as for our 150. If your wife and the rest of the family have any interest in flying, the 172 will give you more options to go places with more than just 1 passenger.

The good thing about these type clubs is that there might be a member willing to go look at the plane for you. Geoff has a good idea about calling the airport. Just be sure that thee person doing the looking doesn't have an interest in the plane. You don't want its regular mechanic to be the one doing the inspection. I'd try Lordsburg first, since it seems to be a bigger town.

Don't fret if this plane is too difficult to take a look at. Plenty more will come along.

Hello Geoff and Henry

thanks a lot for your really valuable advice; my buddy in the U.S. sits in Sequim WA and of course its too far for him to visit ( would even dare to ask him.
Also he is into the Swift scene, so he might not be a typical Cessna expert.
After thinking long and talking to my "better half", I decided to keep observing the market ( Heny, you put it right, plenty more will come along ) and you also directed my
focus on a 1972. Purchase prices seem to be very close and the planes offered are plentiful.. I will be more flexible when I am in the U.S. next time.

Maybe one day I might have a U.S. grandchild willing to travel with me ( my wife does not like flying, but is liberal enough to let me have my hobby).
your replies have really helped me, if you try to locate an old Volkswagen or want hints for your next European bicycle tour, I am happy to help you !!
Thanks again,

Peter

I am hoping my grandchildren will like flying too. My daughter just had our second one in December 1. The first one turned two on November 30. Just a few more years and we'll find out!

Good luck with your search. It can be fun. Have your buddy be on the lookout for a plane near him.
