Just started the annual on my 150M and my mechanic says I need both a front and aft spinner bulkhead. Apparently new replacements are insanely expensive.

Anybody have these or can offer recommendations on where to source suitable and more affordable used replacements?

Thanks!

Jim

Updated: Part #s are 0450046-3/0450046-5 (aft) and 0450050-1/0450050-3 (front).

whistle

(pssst....once painted, noone will be able to tell the difference.)

otherwise, buy off eBay but be sure you get correct P/N ( many sellers are wrong on what they think they are selling, and most know EXACTLY what a new one costs and price accordingly)
Or- start calling salvage yards, but again they also know what they are worth.

BTW_ The Cessna parts are still avail, the FWD and AFT spinner bulkheads are about $1000 each.

Uh, yeah. *Gulp* It looks like the salvage places all may have a bunch of the FWD ones, but the AFT may be elusive. So far only Texas Air Salvage has gotten back to me and confirmed that they do not have any AFT bulkheads.

...because that is the one that usually cracks, or cracks when you remove prop.

WHY are both yours bad? Usually it's the plastic fwd spacer in the earlier models that cracks because it is not shimmed correctly. My friend had a 150H and replaced the plastic spacer which was almost $600, then found it cracked again about a year later when selling plane- so he put the skull cap on and gave the buyer the spinner parts to decide if they wanted to put it back on.

You can't really put a skull cap on the L & M models due to the spacer and extended fiberglass nose bowl caps.
Installing the spinner on the L & M models, you have to put a slight preload on the spinner, or else it will crack again.

No idea. Just started the annual today and my mechanic said I need to replace them. Exact message was that the aft was cracked and the fwd is "loose" and that both needed to be replaced.

Your mechanic should know that there are some (needless to say) very expensive shims that go between the prop and the front bulkhead so that it is not "loose". If it was not installed properly and is in fact "loose", that is likely the cause of the cracked rear bulkhead as this would allow the spinner to "wobble" stressing the rear bulkhead.

Good point, Bruce, I'll be sure to ask. My mechanic is a former 150 owner so he knows the model well, but I'll be sure to remind him about the shims before I purchase another forward bulkhead.

Actually,......the L and M model 150's do not have spacers for the spinner installation. The FWD and AFT bulkheads are sandwiched directly on the prop, ahead of the spacer.
James has an M model.

The 150 models prior to the extended fiberglass nose bowl and prop extension DO have shims to preload the spinner.

I took mine off and installed a skull cap spinner for about 40 bucks
