Hey gang -

Do any of you that have already ADSB-equipped happen to have your decent old transponder to sell? It looks like I may be in the market to replace my KT76A.

Past couple of flights with flight following have been hit or miss for initial contact when I request. Recycling seemed to help, but it was definitely acting wonky. Today they weren't seeing me at all and made me perform some turns to radar ID me. About 10 minutes after confirming my target, they informed me that they were seeing my info. A few minutes later they lost me again.

I'm no avionics guru but it sure sounds like my old KT76A is on the way out. My dilemma at this point is that I was holding out for the TailBeacon and planning to keep the existing transponder. For a variety of reasons this seems to be the best solution for me, but I obviously don't want to invest a lot to replace my legacy transponder if uAvionix doesn't win TSO approval and I ultimately have to go with an all in one solution.

Preference right now would probably be for a yellow tagged, solid state Garmin unit with the KT76A slide in adapter (I do need this to be tagged, right?) Obviously beggars can't be choosers, so I'd also be open a unit without tag or possibly even a KT76A replacement (I have a lead on "working-when-removed" unit for $100).

Anybody have anything that might bail me out here? Recommendations/opinions also welcome.

Jim

I’m sitting on a KT76A that was working when I upgraded to the GTX345

Thanks, Matt and Jim! I decided to go with Brian's GTX 320. I'm hoping that the solid state unit will provide some additional longevity if TailBeacon ultimately becomes my ADSB solution.
