Well I just became a co-owner on a 2001 172SP so I am having to sell my 150. I bought it in Feb and passed my checkride in it in June after spending about 60 hours in it. Please pass this info on to anyone who may be interested.

Thanks

This plane is based on my field and I can attest to the fact that it is very clean and has been well maintained. Good luck on the sale Lance.

I have relisted the airplane on eBay. I have set the reserve to $15,999. Does this seem like a fair price?

I very much doubt you'll get that much for it, but hope so for your sake! If not, you can always relist for free with a lower reserve. I would expect $14.5 max, unless you're foruntate enough to get a naive buyer who hasn't scoped the market well. There's plenty out there! Hope you get lucky!

The only thing I see that will keep you from geting your reserve is the high time engine! Factory overhauled is a plus, and the engine may perform perfectly well past TBO, but less than 250 hours to what many see as a mandatory overhaul (of course it's not mandatory) will scare many buyers away. You had 3 offers in the $14K area on the first listing, and I would be surprised to see any more than that on the second (traditionally, less!)

Pretty plane, though! Who, knows?

One thing that I have learned with eBay is that you have to play the game. Setting a reasonable reserve kills the sale right up front. For example, I sold a really pretty little ultralight that I had aquired. I set a reasonable reserve of $6,000 and started the bidding at $5,000. Nothing happened. I relisted it. Gritting my teeth I set no reserve and started the bidding at $100. The plane ultimately sold for $8,400. You need to get a bidding frenzy going.

I also sold a propeller, seats and other things. Low starting bids and no reserves got me more then what I expected originally.

But, admittedly, it sure is hard on the nerves. For someday it is not going to work!

After selling 72G a little less then a year ago, I have doubts about your $16,000 reserve. Unfortunately for you, like Carl points out, there are lots of cheap 150's out there. That high time engine is going to hurt. But, there is possibly a silver lining maybe? How long has it been since it has be top ended? If you have a fairly new top end, you may want to advertise that for it would help considerably.

Good luck!

I thought recommended TBO for the O-200 is 1800 hrs, not 2000 hrs. If that's correct, his engine is 18 hrs away from TBO.

That's correct. The engine is basically at recommended TBO.

BTW, just another little tid-bit on eBay. It tends to scare some buyers away when you list "AS IS, WHERE IS, NO WARRANTEE." That's already implied in Ebay auctions, but seeing it makes some buyers wonder if the seller's hiding anything. I'd delete that line personally.
