I’m looking for a used but good condition David Clark Passive Noise Reduction headset. If you have one laying around, maybe you’d consider selling it to me. I’m Interested in H10-60, H10-40 or H10-13.4 models with dual GA plugs.

I actually have an H10-40 that I need to repair because it causes a whine in the intercom when I push the PTT button. This happens in two different planes with different intercoms. The problem follows the headset and doesn’t occur with other headsets. I could use parts from a working but cosmetically challenged 10-40.

Henry, contact David Clark about the problem and I bet they will repair your headset abd recondition them for free or a very reasonable cost.
I know people that have brought headsets in to them, went to lunch and came back and picked up their reconditioned headsets.
DC is a great company and stands behind their products.

I contacted them, but they want $130 plus shipping to do look at it. It would be better to get a $150 trade in towards a Lightspeed Zulu 3. However, I’m not quite ready for that. I just want a fourth set for a passenger next week. I already have ANRs for the front.

I’ll also try to take my current H10-40 apart.

Ron, I have done that two times and had similar results (Free repair and reconditioning). But I believe they only do that for walk-ins as a courtesy for making the effort to visit the factory/office in Worcester, MA.

By the way, my H10-40 has been discontinued 15 years. I don't begrudge them for the repair cost. I just don't think the headset is worth the effort. If I'm going to spend that much, I can find a newer model for about the same price. I missed by a few minutes an H10-60 advertised in another forum for $75. I got an H10-13.4 for for less than that. I just need to be patient. I happen to have a full plane next week and that is the only reason I'm looking.

Does anyone know what the foam material is that is used behind the speakers and in from of them? Mine just disintegrated and turned into dust. I'd like to get some of this material and use it to refurbish my H10-40, provide the audio feedback stops. It could be some of the disintegrated foam was causing an issue. There is not much in there that could cause a problem. It is just wires a a capacitor.

The capacitor on the microphone leads could be the issue too. Does anybody happen to know what value it is? It is covered in such a way that I can't read any markings.

Henry,
Are you still looking for a headset? I have both a H10-13.4 and a H10-40. Let me know.

Sorry for not posting an update. I got the headset I needed. I actually ended up with an H10-13.4 and an H10-40.

I still have the one that doesn't seem to work right with an intercom. I will try to fix it some day. I think it needs new cabling. I still can't explain why it only has a problem with the intercom and not in pilot-isolate mode.
