After using the weather as part of a GNS530 installed on the plane I used to fly, I have decided I need this when I go out and fly. So other than the Garmin 396/496, what about the Anywhere WX on the PDA? I am liking some other features offered also on this, along witht he 1,700 price tag. so what are any of your experiances with the anywhere map product with weather and terrain? any others out there also? Thanks.

Richard:

We ferry aircraft all over the world and I have been using the Anywheremap for navigation ever since they put it on the market.

It is excellent and with a blue tooth antenna it is as stable as with a hardwired antenna.

We do not use the weather feature as it is not avaliable outside of the USA. However I would bet it is a very good system as anywheremap is state of the art.

And you also have a removable computer to use outside of the airplane....get a minimum of 512 meg card to load the info..one gig would be better.

If you are using it in the U.S. you will have a computer generated nav aid that is equal to the latest Boeing and Airbus glass cockpits with the advantage of being portable.

The only drawback I have found is using it to plot great circle routes over long distances for international flying...for that I still use my Lowrance Airmap 300...

I didn't think of that, but when I get back to the US, Canada, Alaska and Maybe mexico will be the only exotic places I "May" go. and I like the idea of having the plates on board the PDA also, I have been doing allot of reading the last couple days, 1705.00 for a complete system seems like a great price, compared to 2200.00 for the 396. I don't foresee getting a plane on purchasing a in panel GPS with weather anytime soon. so this looks very appealing. I do have the Garmin 196 also. but may get rid of it when I but the new unit.
