My plane just got out of the annual inspection. One of the things they found was a defective switch for the nav lights. In troubleshooting the mechanic swapped the pitot heat switch to test the lighting circuit and found that that switch was no good. I never have ever used pitot heat so had no idea! Anyway, we needed to replace both switches. And the previous owner had the beacon switch changed at some point and they put in a toggle switch. So I decided to replace all 3 switches with the correct Cessna parts so all 4 switches (the 3 mentioned and the landing/taxi light) matched.

Well, it turns out that some time in the past Cessna changed the switches and knobs. Now they come with great big ugly light brown knobs, and they also have a 10-32 knob shaft (original was 8-32). So I can't easily just put the old knobs on (remember the landing light is still the original), and even at that I am still short one original for the beacon.

I experimented with an original and drilled and tapped it to 10-32 and that worked wonderfully. So I can use the 3 originals. BUT - I still need one more.

Does anyone have a spare (or two) of these knobs? They are the older style push/pull on the 1968s (not sure what year they changed to rocker switches). The Cessna part number is S1760-1. I have attached a couple of pics.

Thanks!

Eric

The knobs on my 1964 ‘D’ model didn’t look like what you showed. They were more of what I’ll call a ‘trumpet’ or ‘tulip’ style. The knobs were white, except for the master which I believe was red. The same knob was used on the seat adjuster. Here’s a modern-day equivalent:

In any event, DigiKey has plenty to choose from. Here’s all their 8-32 stud size knobs here:

The one that most closely resembles what I had is this:

Hi Kirk. Yes I was on the Davies site (they make all those knobs) yesterday. If I have to go that route I will. I am hoping to find an exact match as per the part number. I found one on Ebay, brand new in packaging, but it is $25! Cessnadirect (Yingling) also sells for $25, and KRN also stocks them (you have to contact them for price).

I was hoping that maybe someone on the forum might have one of these in there "old stock". Kendel?

$25 for an airplane part? Sounds like a bargain!

I will look in the parts plane tonight. Failing that, there might be one in the 310 scrapper I will be picking up in a few weeks. If I come up with one, you can have it. Bug me in a few weeks if I forget about you.

LOL! Thanks Kendel! Yes I get the "humor" about airplane parts! smile Still, seems excessive! But KRN has them for $20 - they have good prices there. I bought 2 brand new Cessna vented fuel caps from them last year for $45 each. Pretty much everywhere else was in the $75 range.

I will wait to see what you find tonight, and if I haven't found one I will bug you again in a few weeks smile
