Copyright infringement is a seperate issue. If someone is selling CDs they burned themselves, it should be obvious from just looking at the auction. The same goes for banned items. Would you have Ebay actually send somebody to Ohio to look at the plane and the logs? It's been a couple years since I sold a complete vehicle, but if I remember correctly the total cost was a flat rate of only about $80.00 (1/2 to list and the rest when it sells). The seller, who has a feedback rating of 1962 with 99.7% positive is claiming that nothing is wrong and is inviting people to come take a look. I suspect that ebay has contacted him and that they believe him. The best way to prevent scams like this is to have a searchable database of insurance losses, much like NTSB's for crashes. Another might be to pull the airworthiness cert for planes declared a total loss, but that would make it tougher on someone who wants to rebuild one. If someone had a web page that came up when the N# was searched online and showed the damage, I doubt it would sell.

Well, the auction ended at $17,000. Unfortunately, eBay blocks any attempt to e-mail the buyer if you're not the seller. So there's no way to warn "rocka_fella123" that he should have the plane checked out for hail damage before money changes hands.

Is this thing steadily decreasing in value as it changes hands?

In any case, they guy will probably join the club soon and THEN he will learn about it.

"Hey folks! I just joined the club and wanted to introduce myself. I just bought thie super cherry '59 on Ebay for a real good price!!!! wow!"

You can contact a member from the member profile:

I am certain he would appreciate the heads up.
Unless it is indeed a Rockefeller....

I just sent the following message: Just a heads up, before you complete the sale, you REALLY should go to www.cessna150-152club.com [cessna150-152club.com] then join so you can use the forum. Go to Buyers and Sellers and read the thread about Herb Rose's 150. There is some history on this plane you need to know about......Hopefully that didn't violate Ebay's policies. It might help if a few other members contact him, too.

Since you posted this we've had a couple of people join, but it will be hard to tell if they are this buyer unless they contact us directly. Do you have an email address for the buyer?

Sorry, Ebay doesn't reveal email addresses when you use their email system to contact another member. If he replies to me, he'll have the option of hiding or showing his email address.

Thanks Eric, Sure hope he takes you up on the Club offer. Could save him a whole bunch of money and heartache. Looks like you guys have done all you can to send the red flag on this one. We can only hope the buyer heeds all of the advise.

I tried that, but eBay comes up with a warning message that basically says you can't "cold call" another member. Only bidders and sellers directly involved in the transaction may e-mail each other.

If you're looking at someone's feedback, there's a "Contact Member" button. I assume you have to be a registered user. I didn't try that link.
