No, JPI will not take the used one on exchange. I asked. And I'm not sure what the difference is on the Marine one. Since it is the same number, I presume it would work but the paperwork probably wouldn't pass muster.
I would suggest trying to get $150-$200 for your 201 transducer on eBay, and then just buy a new 231. Yes, I assume the difference is the paperwork. I plan on listing the 201 and getting the proper transducer. It's a shame that the transducer will cost almost as much as the unit cost me.
