What burning questions need to be answered at the maintenance forums this year? Enquiring minds want to know to plan them.

The hot topic lately appears to be what can the owner do and what needs additional sign offs by A&Ps or AIs. Maybe a discussion about how to use the service manual as well.

As aging owner of an aging aircraft (neither fact of which can be ignored), I'd like to hear a discussion of what a reasonable approach to Cessna SIDs (supplemental inspection documents) might look like…mandatory "down-under", of course, but which have simply been incorporated into our service manuals. From posts on this site, it appears some items specified in SIDs may be picked up on annual, others not so much. When should I pull the headliner/insulation to examine the carry-through spar? On what basis should these inspections be initiated … on a sliding scale according to airframe hours, by a past history in tie-downs or years in the Florida Keys, in response to owner pireps on the forum, etc, etc? Would a borescope be a worthy investment for leisurely investigations by owner?

As another aging owner of another aging aircraft, I really don't know enough to know what questions to ask. frown

I do know I am beginning to think our C-150 has the wrong spinner because it covers most of the oil cooling holes. During the winter and in cooler weather, our temperature and oil pressure are okay (oil pressure maybe a couple of needle widths above the bottom of the green arc, temp a little below half way in the green). When the weather gets warmer (80F or so and on up), the temp goes up over half way and the oil pressure barely into the green. Chuck Hannah had quite a dissertation here a while back. My question is would the covering of the oil holes be enough to cause this problem??

How about the following:

-engine break-in
-steering rods
-painting
-fuel tank maintenance and refurbishment
-proper lubrication for flap tracks.

For starters. whistle
