Any chance it's just your brass float split? Easy fix.
Given enough time and money, anything's easy.
Let's define "easy". The easiest in terms of time and effort is to send the float out for repair (if that's the problem).
If, on the "Good-Fast-Cheap" equation the "Cheap" section is paramount, then one could heat up the float to drive out the gasoline that has leaked inside (a procedure fraught with peril if done wrong...). Then solder the crack. Depending upon one's skills and experience this is either a "Good-Cheap" repair, or a "Fast-Cheap" repair.
But, the more common failure mode is for the "sending" portion of the sensor to fail. Either the resistance windings, or the wiper contact, or mechanical wear of the pivot.
