A friend has a 1977 Cessna 172 Hawk XP for sale at Lincoln, NE (KLNK). Aircraft is a 10 Exterior and 10 Interior with registration N736BW. About 1200 hours since new. IO-360 with about 1200 hours. This is the XP engine - with Xtra Performance. Has not been flown or started since 2008, according to log books. All logs are present since new. Avionics are original, without updates, 2 navcoms, ADF, Transponder. Not in annual. As is, where is. Owner passed away, and widow will not allow engine to be turned or started until new owner takes possession. Must sale by Feb 15. Representative of owner is taking bids. Message me if interested, and I will provide contact information.

The following link is an article about this model for sale, and the picture is almost identical to the Cessna that is for sale.

Thanks, Wayne

Sounds like a nice candidate for a project!

New panel... Refresh the engine...

Curious to see what it brings.

Interesting......

It's similar to a rare barn find but with that comes a certain degree of risk and I'm assuming it's been tucked away inside.

I'd be curious to hear what it ends up selling for and I truly wish her well......I'd hate to see Cindy positioned where she's having to liquidate our planes all on her own. frown

Yes, similar to a rare barn find. Stored in hangar. The individual helping the seller is a member of our EAA chapter. He worked with the deceased owner for many years, and has flown the aircraft (prior to it's hibernation). He says it flies like a dream. He is a machinist, and is quite knowledgeable about engines. A prebuy is OK, bore light in cylinders is OK, but no starting the engine or turning the prop. Doesn't want a stuck valve or other problems -- the seller is not in a position to make any repairs. If Jerry will share the sale price with me, I will share with the forum.

Thanks, Wayne

Thats a pretty big gamble actually....do you know if the engine had anything done to it before it was parked? dessicators? light oil treatment etc? or has it just sat for almost 9 years?

I'd be very curious as to how it has been stored.

That's a rather unusual stipulation. With an engine that hasn't been started in 8-9 years, and not allowed to turn it, a cautious buyer can only allow not much more than core value for the engine.

Seems as though this would be a big hit to the final selling price.
Any offer would assume that there is a stuck valve or other serious problem.

MHO, your mileage my vary

My understanding is that it was "parked" about 8 years ago, and that was it. The seller rep did not mention any preservatives or dessicators. I will provide seller rep contact information by reply message, and he will have more information - serial number on airframe, serial number on engine, transfer of ownership, etc.

Thanks, Wayne

A friend of mine has a Hawk XP. It is a nice mix for an airframe. Can haul a good amount, gets good speed, the airframe isn't exotic, the original engine has a 1400 hour TBO (I think, either 1400 or 1800 hour), engine upgrades are available. Nice IFR aircraft too.

+1 to what Ed said.

A friend of mine has an XP at Dry Creek.... fully decked out (I mean FULLY), and it's really a great bird.
