The face on my OAT is cloudy (probably from paint spray) and is pretty useless from where I sit. I don't think you can open them up and clean the inside of the glass.

So, if anyone knows where I can get a decent OAT replacement for the vent can, I would appreciate a note.

Thanks!

Paul,

I may have an extra one that I'll never use which I'll be glad to send you. Give me a couple days to verify and I'll get back to you.

It'll be no charge if I have it but I won't be able to get to the hanger until probably Thursday - maybe Friday.

I know its probably illegal as heck but I bought an indoor/outdoor digital thermometer from Walmart for $10 and vecroed it to the door post. I just couldn't read the tiny numbers on the old one. I also replaced the standard vents with pvc and a gasper valve from Sporty's (also non-approved). Works much better than the originals

Your thermometer isn't illegal as long as it's a temporary installation. There is no requirement for a 150 to have a temperature gauge. On the Robinson helicopters, performance data, or more importantly, performance restrictions are derived from pressure altitude and outside air temperature. So, the OAT gauge is a no-go item if it's inop. A friend of mine bought one of those little digital temp probes that you just stick through the window. It's cool. Even lights up at night and has a little nub protruding to the slipstream. Slick.

That indoor/outdoor idea is great. How did you get the little sensor on the wire outside of the cabin? Did you just run in through the door gasket? And BTW, does it do Farenheit and Celsius? I guess that's asking a lot for a $10 temp gauge.

I also used the indoor/outdoor...also probably from Walmart. I ran the probe wire behind the door post trim into the air vent where the std probe fits. Works very well. One nice thing is that you can situate the display so you can see it easily.

Mine is installed exactly like Steve's and yes it does have a switch on the back to switch the display from F to C. I compared its reading to the OEM guage and it was the same only easy to read.
